J&L Garden Center Closing – After 60 Years in Business

For nearly 60 years, it has been J&L Garden Center’s great opportunity to assist many wonderful gardeners in the Davis County area and beyond.

The 2nd generation of Smith’s has been working at J&L for 48 years and it is now time to retire. Since we encouraged our amazing children to have careers doing what they love to do, there isn’t anyone waiting to take over the business.

The consideration of closing our store has been difficult, and the decision was not made quickly or easily. We had hoped to sell our business to keep it a place of service to the local communities, and to keep our excellent employees doing what they love, but discovered that not to be a possibility.

We don’t know who will end up buying our property; we hope it is another Garden Center.

To all our wonderful customers throughout the years, and our incredible employees, both past and present, we are forever grateful for your support. Thank you for 60 great years!

We have to brag about having some of the best employees around, who have become like family to us. We wish them well in their future. We know they will go on to do great things. They have helped make J&L what it is today!

We will miss working with you good people, who have become our friends through our shared interest of beautifying our outdoor surroundings and gardening for food production. We would like to thank you for your patronage these many years.

Friday, August 25th, began our 60th Anniversary/Store Closing sale. The liquidation company, we hired, has begun an orderly process of selling the merchandise we have left. They project it will take 90 days before we are done.

After we close, we really don’t know what we are going to do with our Saturday’s, we have never had the opportunity to decide that. We think it will be a great adventure. We hope to continue our friendships we as bump in to each other during our adventures.
